American Legion Auxiliary meets in May
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 178 of Van Wert met on May 3. The Minutes of the previous meeting were read.
The Audit Committee completed the audit for the period ending March 31. The audit report was distributed, read, and approved.
The Auxiliary Tuesday night dinner on June 7 will be ham and sweet potatoes. A bake sale will also be held, with donations of baked goods being accepted. The meal is open to the public. Members, and the public, are encouraged to continue saving pop can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and fronts only of non-trade mark cards to be sent to St. Jude’s Ranch for Children. Items will be collected at the Auxiliary’s Tuesday night dinners.
During the past month, our Second District has climbed from ninth place to first place in meeting membership goals. The Second District Summer Convention will be held on June 3 in Sidney. Delegates selected to attend the Summer Convention are Helen Rode, Rose Myers, Ruth Schutz, Roxie Brown, Regina Henney, and Robin Springer.
Eight of the girls selected to attend Girl’s State, and their parents, attended an orientation session held in Spencerville.
Poppy Chairman Margaret Hipsley requested volunteers to help distribute poppies and donation cans during May, leading up to Memorial Day.
A donation of $100 was sent to assist with party expenses for the veterans at the Dayton Veterans Administration Hospital.
Chaplain Jean Wittung and President Helen Rode draped the charter for a deceased member. They then conducted a memorial service for 12 members deceased during the past year.
Nominating Committee Chairman Ramona Bostick presented the slate of officers as follows: Ruth Schutz, president; Rose Myers, first vice president; Regina Henney, second vice president; Roxie Brown, secretary; and Nancy Blanke, treasurer. As there were no nominations from the floor, the slate of officers was elected as presented. Officers will be installed in August following the reading of the audit for the period ending June 30.
The Department of Ohio will hold the State Convention in Columbus on July 6-8. The delegates selected are Rose Myers, Ruth Schutz, Roxie Brown, Regina Henney, and Robin Springer. Alternates were also selected.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 7, at 7 p.m. An Executive Committee meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m.
