Debra Carder’s passion for genealogy began 14 years ago when she started exploring her own family history. As a genealogical research volunteer at the Delphos Public Library and Allen County Historical Society, requests for research beyond the time limitations of the volunteers were offered to her and these requests became her first clients.

She researches primarily in west central Ohio and the Miami Valley, but has also done research in other Ohio counties and 17 other states. She has been presenting programs and workshops since 2004, speaking at genealogical and historical societies, libraries, and other organizations.

In December 2007, Carder completed the National Genealogical Society’s “American Genealogy: A Home Study Course.”

She was also acknowledged as a contributor to Elizabeth Shown Mills’ book, Evidence Explained and is currently writing a book on her father’s family history. She was a speaker at the 2012 Ohio Genealogical Society conference.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at Liberty Baptist Church, 501 E. Third St. in Van Wert.
