Stained-glass project to honor Millers
This past Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert there was recognition of the Rev. Paul and Lorraine Miller for their many years of service to the Van Wert community. Rev. Miller is a longtime pastor in the West Ohio United Methodist Conference, which includes the local area. He is on the staff of First United Methodist Church as a part-time pastor to provide visiting and caring for the community.
Rev. Miller is best known for his daily calls at the hospitals, nursing homes and anyone who is in need of prayers and fellowship. He is not just a pastor for his current church but for everyone that he meets, even if this may be the first time. He is known to go from room to room making each person feel better with his words, prayers and laughter. He probably conducts more funerals services in the county than any other pastor. He is considered to be the “community pastor”.
To honor him and his special ministry, stain glass windows will be installed above the church’s Central Avenue doors. The main window is of Christ, which Rev. Miller loves, and a child admiring his Master’s ways. Those entering the doors will be reminded of Christ and his children. Reggie Buehrer of Window Creations is designing the windows.
Because Rev. Miller is such a community treasure, the church wants this to be more than a local church event. Therefore, they are asking all people who appreciate him and his loving ways to be on “Paul’s Honor Roll”. The honor roll will have all the names of contributors on it and displayed at the church. Also a special “Honor Roll Book” will be given to the Milers. Any amount of contribution will place one on the honor roll.
The funds for the windows will come from individuals and groups. Contributions may be sent to: First United Methodist Church-Paul Miller Honorarium, 113 Central Ave., Van Wert, OH 45891.
