VW woman dies in bike-car crash

A Van Wert woman was killed Friday evening after apparently riding her bicycle into the path of a vehicle at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and U.S. 224.

Tammy McGannon, 43, was pronounced dead at Van Wert County Hospital from injuries received in the accident.

According to a report from the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Department, McGannon was riding east on Lincoln Highway when she first slowed, but then rode into the intersection with U.S. 224 and into the path of a 2005 Mercury Montego driven by Linda L. Reno, 60, of Convoy.

McGannon was thrown up on the windshield of the Montego from the force of the collision and then into the northbound lane of U.S. 224.

She was taken to the hospital by Brickner Ambulance Service and was later pronounced dead there. According to the accident report, McGannon failed to yield the right of way before riding into the path of Reno’s vehicle.
