VW wrestlers 4th at Dayton tourney

DAYTON — Van Wert’s varsity wrestling team participated in the Dayton Stebbins High School dual meet tournament and finished in fourth place after defeating three teams, Middletown (48-30), Fairborn (59-24) and Trotwood Madison (45-24), and then losing to Springboro (58-24).

Three Cougar wrestlers were undefeated in the tournament, although two of those competed in only one match for Van Wert. Terrin Contreras was 3-0 in the tourney at 285 pounds, while Anthony Duckworth was 1-0 and also wrestled at 285 pounds. Brody Couts was 1-0 and wrestled at 195 pounds.

Seven Van Wert wrestlers lost only match. Those included Andy Hammond (126 pounds), Quinton Rutkowski (138 pounds), Daniel Thompson (145 pounds), Colten Royer (160 pounds), Jordan Daniels (170 pounds), Gabe Hill (182 pounds), and Zack Thomas (220 pounds).
