Tuesday March 26, 2024 

12:21 a.m. – Deputies checked an area between the City of Van Wert and the City of Delphos to check the welfare of a subject. 

1:16 a.m. – Deputies checked an area of U.S. 127 in Liberty Township for a subject that may have been in mental distress. 

7:52 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. 30 in Ridge Township for a report of a motor vehicle crash. A 2020 Subaru Legacy driven by Vanessa Espinoza was eastbound on U.S. 30 approaching the exit to Lincoln Highway. Espinoza swerved to avoid metal debris in roadway and ran off right side of roadway and struck the exit sign for Lincoln Highway and broke it off and it came to rest along the right side of exit. No injuries were reported. 

7:55 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. 224 in Hoaglin Township on a report of a motor vehicle crash. A 2014 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Jacob Cruz of Fort Jennings was traveling west in the 16000 block of U.S. 224, and went off the right side of the roadway sliding sideways for a distance before rolling one time and coming to a rest, still on the right side of the roadway. Cruz was not injured in the crash and was able to exit the vehicle by himself. The car sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Hauge towing. Cruz was issued a citation for failure to maintain reasonable control. 

8:09 a.m. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a location on Main Street in the City of Van Wert for a subject who had fallen. 

9:35 a.m. – Deputies responded to a location on Carmean Street in the Village of Ohio City on a complaint of theft. 

1151 a.m. – Deputies responded to a location Liberty Union Road in the City of Van Wert to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle. 

12:44 p.m. – Dispatched Convoy EMS to a residence on Ohio 49 in the Village of Wren for a subject who had fallen. 

2:34 p.m. – Deputies spoke with a resident from the City of Van Wert on a complaint of domestic violence that had previously occurred in the county. 

3:51 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Koch Street in the Village of Ohio City on a complaint of juveniles trespassing. 

4:31 p.m. – Dispatched Spencerville EMS to a residence on Gilbert Road in Jennings Township for a subject who was ill. 

4:44 p.m. – Deputies served two warrants issued by Van Wert Municipal Court for failure to appear. James R. Aldrich, 54, of Lima was transported from the Auglaize County Jail to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility. 

5:10 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on the Ohio Indiana State Line in Harrison Township to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle. 

5:27 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Evans Street in the Village of Venedocia on a complaint of a subject moving surveyor property markers.

8:11 a.m. – Deputies spoke with a resident from the Village of Venedocia on a complaint of a violation of protection prder.

9:03 a.m. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a location on Towne Center Boulevard in the City of Van Wert for a subject who had fallen.

12:34 a.m. – Deputies spoke with a resident on a complaint of identity theft.

12:36 a.m. – Deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on U.S. 30 in Tully Township. The incident was investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

1:54 p.m. – Deputies responded to a location on Towne Center Boulevard to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.

2:16 p.m. – Deputies served a warrant issued by Van Wert County Common Pleas Court for a bond violation, and a warrant issued by Van Wert Municipal Court for failure to appear. Ronald Lee Runyon, 46 of Van Wert is being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.

3:35 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Gordon Avenue in the City of Van Wert to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.

3:53 p.m. – Dispatched Willshire Fire to a report of a brush fire on Ohio 81 in Willshire Township.

6:46 p.m. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a location on U.S. 127 in Hoaglin Township for a subject with chest pain.

Deputies were assisted on scene by the Allen County, Ohio Sheriff’s Office, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Van Wert County CERT, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Spencerville Fire, Middle Point Fire, and Ohio City Fire.

9:11 a.m. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. 127 in Liberty Township on report of a motor vehicle crash. Unit one was northbound on US 127. Approximately 1/2 mile south of Ohio 709, unit two was passing a semi and going southbound. Unit one swerved to right to avoid unit two. Unit two struck unit one’s mirror and unit one went off right side of road, overcorrected and crossed the center line, went off left side of road, struck a ditch and an old control box and came back on road. Unit two continued on without stopping.

12:26 p.m. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a residence on Kear Road in the City of Van Wert for a subject who was ill.

1:41 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Fife Road in Hoaglin Township to check the welfare of a subject who may have been in mental distress.

Jeremy James Cole, 33, of Wren is being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility on charges of having weapons while under disability, a third degree felony; tampering with evidence, a third degree felony, and possession of a fentanyl related compound, a fifth degree felony.

11:35 a.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Center Street in the City of Van Wert to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.

12:57 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Mendon Road in York Township to check the welfare of a juvenile who had not reported for school.

11:39 a.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Greenville Road in Liberty Township to assist a subject who may have been in mental distress.

1:14 p.m.- Deputies along with Ohio City Fire and EMS responded to a report of a car vs. semi Crash on Ohio 81 west of U.S. 127. A 2012 Honda Civic driven by Joan I. Gilleo, 65, of Celina crossed the center line and struck a 2023 Kenworth Tractor Trailer. The driver of the 2012 Honda Civic had to be extricated from the vehicle and was then transported to Ohio Health in Van Wert by Ohio City EMS where Lutheran Air then flew her to Fort Wayne.

1:21 p.m. – Deputies contacted a resident on Wren Landeck Road in Liberty Township on a complaint of chickens and ducks being killed by a stray dog.

1:40 p.m. – Deputies contacted a resident on a complaint of forgery involving their bank account.

4:26 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Jennings Road in Ridge Township on a report of a occupied vehicle parked along the roadway.

4:44 p.m. – Deputies responded to an area of Greenville Road in Liberty Township on a report of a stray dog.

7:47 p.m. – Deputies served a warrant issued by a Putnam County Court for failure to appear. Kevin Alan Keirns, 36, of Van Wert was transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility pending transfer to Putnam County.

7:49 p.m. – Deputies responded to a location on Slane Road in Hoaglin Township on a complaint of an abandoned vehicle being left on private property.

8:47 p.m. – Deputies responded to a residence on Shane Street in the Village of Ohio City on a complaint of domestic violence. Thomas Simonski, 60, of Ohio City was arrested on a first-degree misdemeanor charge of domestic violence. He was transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.
