Cougar wrestlers in Dayton tourney

DAYTON – The Van Wert High School wrestling team participated in the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Tournament held at the Nutter Center at Wright State University in Dayton on Tuesday, December 28, and Wednesday, December 29. There were 49 teams competing from all three wrestling divisions from southwest, northwest, and central Ohio, as well as three teams from Kentucky.
Van Wert finished 23rd overall and 11th in the small school division. Two Cougar grapplers placed and received awards: Connor Massillo was third at 145 pounds, while Cory Hirschy finished in fifth place in the 189-pound weight class.

130 pounds: Sean Dorsch – 2 wins, 2 losses
135 pounds: Daniel Thompson – 0 wins, 2 losses
140 pounds: Colten Royer – 0 wins, 2 losses
145 pounds: Connor Massillo – 5 wins, 1st loss of season in overtime
152 pounds: Jordan Daniels – 1 win, 2 losses
160 pounds: Gabe Hill – 0 wins, 2 losses
171 pounds: Bradie Strawser – 0 wins, 2 losses
189 pounds: Cory Hirschy – 5 wins, 2 losses
285 pounds: Terrin Contreras – 3 wins, 2 losses
Van Wert will compete next at the second Western Buckeye League super tri-match at Wapakoneta with Defiance and Elida at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 6.
