NSCC honors database programmers
ARCHBOLD – Northwest State Community College recently honored 15 students for completing the database programming certificate curriculum. This certificate program was created by Custom Training Solutions, a division of NSCC, to satisfy the hiring demand of the growing computer/IT industry in northwest Ohio. As part of the ceremony, the students presented their final project, a mock computer application.

“Our faculty worked on the curriculum to create a program that would give students the best opportunities for success in the field,” said Todd Hernandez, database applications training coordinator. “Graduates of the program will leave with a diverse set of skills, which should translate well into the job market.”
The database programming certificate is an intensive, 15-week program designed to stand alone, or as part of an associate degree in technical studies for database programming. Students in the certificate program complete nine courses worth 22 credit hours. Topics in the courses include basics, such as Microsoft Office applications, to advanced techniques including C# Programming and Crystal Reports.
“The program not only provides students with technical skills, but also covers some basic skills for the workplace,” said Hernandez. “We teach students communication skills that will help them successfully interact with both clients and coworkers.”
The second 15-week session for the database programmer certificate is currently in its eighth week, and the third session will begin on January 24.
