VW swimmers do well in WBL triple meet

The Van Wert High School boys and girls swimming and diving teams traveled to the Defiance YMCA to compete with Defiance, Fostoria and St. Wendelin. This meet was scored as a triple dual. The Cougar boys successfully defeated all three other schools by the following scores: Defiance 104-74, St. Wendelin 138-21 and Fostoria 127-43. The Cougar girls defeated Fostoria 93-69 and St. Wendelin 125-16, but fell to Defiance 85-91.

Freshman Eric Easley finished first overall and broke his 10-day-old school record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.27 seconds. He also finished first in the 100-yard butterfly.

Other Van Wert swimmers placing first overall included Taylor Grooms (100 backstroke), Trey Stemen (100 freestyle), AJ Foster (50 freestyle), the boys’ 200-yard medley relay team (Foster, Stemen, Easley, Adam Saylor) and the boys 400 freestyle relay (Stemen, Easley, Saylor, Cody Hanes).

In the 1-meter diving event, both Kaylee Meyers and Kase Schalois placed first.
