Wallace named Wassenberg director

Van Wert County Foundation Executive Secretary Larry L. Wendel has announced the employment of Hope Wallace as the new executive director of Wassenberg Art Center. She will replace Seth Baker, acting director of the center.

Wallace, who begins her duties Tuesday, February 1, brings a distinctive and varied background of experience in the art world to the art center.

Wallace holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art and graphic design from Defiance College. She has extensive experience in graphic design, product design and illustration along with art direction. Prior to accepting the position of Wassenberg Art Center Director, Wallace served as art director for adults with autism at Bittersweet Inc., an 80-acre farm community with various artisan shops in Whitehouse. Until accepting the Wassenberg position, she was an instructor at Defiance College, where she taught graphic design and photography.

Her professional experience also includes 10 years as a graphic designer in marketing communications for Sauder Woodworking, Archbold. Earlier in her career, she was a toy designer at Ohio Art in Bryan, where she helped launch Betty Spaghetty, a popular activity doll.

Wallace presently serves on the Visual Communications Board at ITT Technical Institute in Maumee. Her personal creative work has evolved into hand-carved pottery, painting, illustration and kinetic sculpture made with found and natural objects. She free-lances in graphic design, illustration, and video and digital editing. Her illustrations and designs for giftware and greeting card markets have enjoyed both domestic
and international distribution.
