Van Wert independent sports

COLDWATER – The Cougar bowlers took to the lanes at Coldwater’s Pla-Mor Lanes on Saturday. In the first matches of the day, the 16 boys’ teams of the league took to the lanes. The Cougar team rolled against the St. Marys Roughriders. The Cougars took a 62-pin count lead in the first game and 32 pins in the second regular game.

However, the Cougars allowed the Roughriders back in the match by losing the first baker game by 30 pins to cut the lead to 64 pins. But the Cougars remained strong, and rolled even stronger in the final baker games to win the match by 155 pins on the day.

High scorers for the Cougars in the regular games were Trent Metzger, 209 and 193; Chris Thatcher, 196 and 170; and Jordan Dettrow, 178.

With the win, the Cougars move their record to 10-3, while St. Marys drops to 9-4 on the season. Next Saturday the Cougars will be at home at Olympic lanes to face the Wapakoneta Redskins (11-2) in a hot match.

Following the boys’ matches, the girls took to the lanes in Coldwater to match up with a dangerous Lima Central Catholic team.

The Lady Thunderbirds started the regular games very cold and the Cougar girls took no mercy, rolling a good 837 game versus LCC’s 662 to take the commanding lead of 175 pins. Van Wert did not allow the T-Birds to even come close, defeating the T-Birds by 408 pins on the day.

High scorers for the Cougar girls were: Tyler Metzger, 191 and 185; Kylie Allenbaugh, 180 and 167; Elisa Dunlap, 176; and Taylor Beair, 173.

With the win, Van Wert advances to 6-4 and will roll in Van Wert next Saturday against Marion Local (1-9).
