VW boy, girl bowlers win last matches
Van Wert independent sports
The Van Wert High School bowling teams rolled well at Lima’s 20th Century Lanes hosted by Lima Central Catholic on Saturday.
The boys’ last regular match of the season was against the newest team to the league, the Ansonia Tigers. The Cougars showed no mercy, steamrolling over the Tigers in the regular games to take a 407-pin advantage.
The Van Wert boys continued gaining pin count to win the match by 661 pins, 2768-2107.
High scores for the winning Cougars were: Nate Simson, 206 and 185; Trent Metzger, 193; and Luke Riley, 185 and 185.
The Cougar boys’ team will roll in sectional tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Minster. Thirteen boys’ teams will roll, with five teams – and four individuals not qualifying on a team – advancing to the Rossford District.
The Lady Cougar bowling team rolled in its last regular season match against the Parkway Panthers in the next shift.
The Van Wert girls struggled as a team on the day, but continued to fight for every pin they got and the Panthers on the day rolled over their average to make the match a very close one.
The Cougars started the day behind the Panther ladies by 57 pins in the first regular game. However, the Cougars started picking at that deficit to take an 8-pin advantage by the first baker game. In the second baker game, the Panthers rolled well to gain a 32-pin advantage but that was the last lead Parkway would have.
In the final three bakers it was all Cougars who gained 98 pins to win the match by a just 66 pins, 2176-2084.
High scores for the match were: Cougars: Tyler Metzger, 183 and 156; and Kylie Allenbaugh, 170 and 170; Panthers: Sidney Cook, 179 and 157; and Amanda Tribolet, 157.
Both teams will roll in Sectional action on Friday at Minster against eight other teams to try to punch their tickets to the Rossford District, with only four teams advancing and four individuals on teams that do not advance to the district.
