VW Marlins compete in two meets

The Van Wert Marlins dropped an abbreviated dual meet at home to Putnam County YMCA on February 5 in a meet cut short due to the unexpected snowstorm and a snow emergency declared by Putnam County.

On February 12, Van Wert traveled to Tiffin for the Tiffin Invitational. The meet pretty much serves as a precursor to the championships, with over 300 swimmers competing from 12 northern Ohio YMCAs.

Posting first-place finishes were Addison Henkaline in the 100 individual medley and Aaron Stant in the 50 butterfly. Evan Stant finished first in all four of his individual events.

The Marlins have one final home meet on February 25 and then they travel to Wapakoneta for the YMCA Sectionals on March 5.

Those who qualify at sectionals will then compete at the Northwestern YMCA Championships on March 12 at Fremont.

• 8 & Under Girls: Emma Pollock – 1^st 100 IM.
• 8 & Under Boys: Daniel Miller – 1^st 100 IM.
• 9-10 Girls: Risa Pollock – 3^rd 200 freestyle. Katie McVaigh – 1^st 200 freestyle. Addison Henkaline – 1^st 100 IM. Erin Miller – 3^rd 100 IM.
• 11-12 Girls: Anna Henkaline – 4^th 100 IM. Bethany Fast – 3^rd 100 IM.
• 11-12 Boys – Austin Lucas – 1^st 100 IM.
• 13-14 Girls – Paige Lucas 1^st 200 IM. Hannah Stemen – 4^th 200 IM.
