Rounding at VWCH: Close to home

ANGELA SNYDER/VWCH Patient & Community Relations staff

Stop to fill your gas tank and take a close look at the $3.25 per gallon or more.  Look at the ice covered, snow banked roads.  Then take a look at Van Wert County Hospital and know that you may not have to travel to Lima or Fort Wayne to see your medical specialist.

Every day at the hospital a host of medical specialists are at work, including Cardiologists from Ft. Wayne and Lima, Orthopedic surgeons from Lima and Neurologists from Findlay and Dayton to name just a few.

The Specialty Clinic is a specially outfitted medical practice office located on the first floor of the Van Wert County Hospital.  A variety of physicians are able to see patients, order and complete tests all in the convenience of one site.  When you arrive, you are able to register right in the office.  No need to visit the main registration office.  Currently, specialties having clinic days include: Gastroenterology, Neurology, Nephrology, Podiatry, Neurosurgery, Hematology/Oncology, Urology, Allergy & Immunology and Otolaryngology.

There have been several recent additions to the Specialty Clinic line-up.  Osei-Tutu Owusu, MD, has expanded his oncology practice, the Community Cancer Center, in the specialty clinic on Mondays.  Dr. Owusu’s office can be contacted at 567.525.5140 and he is available for hospital and office consults.
Marlene Bultemeyer, M.D., a neurologist with Fort Wayne Neurological Center, received advanced training in Epilepsy and associated EEG testing protocols.  Dr. Bultemeyer joins neurosurgeons Drs. Rudy and Jeffrey Kachmann in the specialty clinic.  You can schedule an appointment by calling 260.436.2416.

Robert Neidich, MD, will be moving his gastroenterology Van Wert practice to the specialty clinic.  A longtime member of the Van Wert medical family, Dr. Neidich’s office can still be reached at 419.227.8209.

Shawn Ward, DPM, and Alison Niemeyer, DPM, of West Central Ohio Podiatry have begun clinic hours on Wednesdays.  Drs. Ward and Niemeyer specialize in diabetic wound care and salvage, in addition to treating a wide variety of deformities and trauma of the Foot and Ankle.  No referral is necessary to make an appointment with Dr. Ward or Dr. Niemeyer.  You can reach West Central Ohio Podiatry at 419.225.2726.

Before your medical provider refers you to a specialist in another city or state, ask him or her if there is an option to stay right here at home. Local residents can receive the same great care and expertise, without the hassle or cost of travel.

To schedule an appointment with any of the physicians or for more information, contact the Specialty Clinic at Van Wert County Hospital at 419.238.8621.
