YMCA names basketball tourney winners

The YMCA of Van Wert County recently held a fourth grade basketball classic. Six teams participated in the tournament, including: Van Wert 1, Parkway, Wapakoneta, Crestview, Shawnee, and Van Wert 2.

Pool play was on February 26 and each team played three Saturday games. On February 27, the top four teams played in a tournament. It was Van Wert 1 vs. Crestview and Parkway vs. Shawnee. Crestview beat Van Wert 1 and Parkway beat Shawnee to play for the championship.

Crestview beat Parkway, with Crestview then placing first. The Crestview roster included coaches Andy Etzler, David Lichtensteiger and Zach Burch; players were Drew Kline, Ethan Greulach, Landon Burch, Derrick Dealey, Collin Pucket, Javin Etzler, Austin Sheets, Josh Gibson, Griffin Painter, Colton Lautzenheiser, Brant Richardson and Jace Vining.

The second-place team, Parkway, included coaches Trey Stober, Tom Lyons and Bob Wehe; players were Hunter Winters, Matt Gaerke, Colton Kraner, Evan Boroff, Nick Riley, Noah Riley, Gage Etgen, Austin Clutter, Mason Baxter, Jaxon Bruns, Connor Lyons, Jack Wehe and Preston Stober.

“It was a great tournament and a lot of basketball was played over the weekend,” stated Mitch Price, Y program director.  “We were excited with the turn-out and hope to continue holding more of these in the future,” Price concluded.
