The week of March 7-11 was Vocation Awareness Week at St. Mary of the

Assumption School. Deacon Andy McMahon and principal Dave Mathews talked to the students about Mr. McMahon’s calling from God to become a deacon.
Mardi GrasĀ ushers in the Lenten season on the church calendar.The kids had “Mardi Gras fever” on Tuesday, March 8, also known as Fat Tuesday. Each classroom had a King Cake and students were cautious when eating the cake to avoid eating the “baby” inside. Tradition says that whoever finds the baby must bake the cake next year.
In music class, Ms. Schaadt taught the kindergarten children how to useĀ different instruments to beat out the rhythm of nursery rhymes.

On March 1, fourth graders celebrated Ohio’s birthday with a cake. Ohio joined the Union on March 1, 1803, and became the 17th state to do so. The students also made necklaces out of buckeyes and beads.
