Interesting photos submitted for contest

There were quite a number of interesting pictures submitted for competition in “Geometric Shapes” when the Camera Club met Thursday, March 10, at the Art Center.

L.V. Hollis’s print of ice crystals coating a twig took first place honors and Jodi Hattery’s print of transparent spheres was awarded second place.

L.V. Hollis' print won first place in the Camera Club competition on "Geometric Shapes."

In the slide division, Ken Maggi was the big winner, taking first with a photo of gray and white cylinders and rings, and second with an arrangement of colored pencil tip erasers.

In other business, Treasurer Karl Gribler distributed the club’s $5 Food Discount Cards. These cards are good for free, or reduced price food items at 19 area locations, which include 12 in Van Wert, two each in Delphos, Lima and Wapakoneta, and one in Ohio City. The cards can be obtained from any Camera Club member or by calling 419.238.4545.  Proceeds from the sales will used for expenses for the Wassenberg Art Center October Photography Exhibit.

After considerable discussion, a committee was created to determine if a particular photo is appropriate for monthly competition, and in April a committee will be formed to work on the prospectus for the October show.  The club also approved the purchase of a wireless trigger and sensor for the studio lights. Chris Overholt, representing the fair board, announced this year’s fair schedule, the fee for the photography judge, and asked the club to supply the photography themes for this year’s exhibit.

Jan Sorensen provided a map and directions to her home for the photo shoot on Saturday, March 26.

In addition to Overholt, Art Center Director Hope Wallace and Will Hawkins were visitors at the meeting, and Will joined the Wassenberg Art Center and Camera Club.

The club will next meet on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m., at the Wassenberg Art Center on S. Washington St.
