Optimists name essay contest winners
The Optimist Club of Van Wert recently judged students in its essay contest based on the topic “How My Education is the Key to a Successful Future.”

Three Van Wert High School students were honored during the March 10 Optimist Club meeting while presenting their essays. Linzey Rice won first place and was awarded a $200 check and gold medallion. In addition, her winning essay was submitted to the district level to be judged. Taylor Grooms finished in second place and was awarded a $100 check and silver medallion. Third place was awarded to Jordan Mohr, who received a $50 check and a bronze medallion.
“These students did a wonderful job of articulating this year’s theme. Also, special thanks to the judges of the contest for their time and talent,” stated Optimist Essay Chair Diana Cearns. Judges this year were Bitsy Clark, Al Arnold and Amy Prichard. There were 113 essay entries from students at Crestview, Lincolnview and Van Wert high schools.
