Early voting has begun at Elections Office

The Van Wert County Board of Elections announces that absentee/early voting for the May 3 Primary Election has started in the elections office.

Anyone wanting to vote a Republican absent voter ballot may do so by stopping by the Election Board office located at 120 E. Main St., across from the Court House in the County Annex (click here for an absent voter ballot form).  Office hours are 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The only Saturday that the Board of Elections office will be open for voting will be April 30, from 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m.

To vote an absent voter ballot a person must be a registered voter and provide either the last four digits of their social security number or driver’s license number (XX123456). If neither of these items is available, a copy of a current and valid photo ID (state ID card, government ID, etc.) may be used (the photo ID must show the name and address of the voter) or a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or other government document that shows the voter’s name and current address.

Due to the fact there are only Republican candidates to vote on, voters should also state they want a Republican ballot. There are no Democratic candidates or issues to be voted on.

Ballots may be sent by mailing a signed request to the office, along with date of birth, driver’s license number (XX123456) or last four numbers of the individual’s social security number, an address where the ballot may be sent, along with the designation of the Republican party ballot and the voter’s signature.

Any questions regarding absentee voting may be addressed by contacting the Board office at 419.238.4192.
