VWCS offering developmental screening

Van Wert City Schools will be offering a free developmental screening to any child, age 3-5, who resides in the local school district. The screening will be held Thursday, April 7, from noon to 6:30 p.m., and on Friday, April 8, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Thomas Edison Early Childhood Center located at 813 N. Franklin St.

The screening, which will include height, weight, hearing, vision, speech/language, fine motor, gross motor, cognition, and social/emotional, will be conducted by Van Wert City Schools preschool staff members and their community partners, and is open to any child regardless of preschool choice for the 2011-2012 school year.

Those wanting to participate must have an appointment for this screening, which can be obtained by calling 419.238.1514, extension 221.

To enter preschool for the following year, a child needs to be 3 by August 1 and not be going on to kindergarten (there is a separate screening in the fall of 2011 for kindergarten children).
