VWHS cage, cheerleader awards listed

The 2010-2011 Van Wert High School basketball program held its awards night program in the First Federal Lecture Hall in the Niswonger Performing Arts Center to honor all the basketball players for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the program. Individual awards were presented to members of the freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams.

Special team awards were presented to the following:

  • Cougar Award — Corey Clifton and Jacob Myers
  • Claw Award — Jacob Hood
  • Chairman of the Boards — Corey Clifton
  • Pride Award — Austin Fleming and Kirby Doidge
  • Rookie of the Year — Reggie Phillips
  • Captains Award — Corey Clifton and Austin Fleming
  • WBL Honors — Corey Clifton, First Team; Jacob Myers, Second Team; Jacob Hood, Honorable Mention.
  • District 8 Coaches Association — Corey Clifton, First Team All District; Corey Clifton, West Team All Star.
  • OHSBCA Academic Award — Blake Doidge, Jacob Hood, Austin Fleming, Gold Award; Jack Moonshower, Silver Award.

The Van Wert High School basketball cheerleaders were also honored at the awards recognition held recently. Senior basketball players will be presented Senior Scrapbooks made by the cheerleaders to capture the memories of the 2010-11 season.

Cheerleader varsity letter winners included the following:

Third-year letter winners — Brooke Grieshaber, Lindsay Greve, and Amelia Wiseman; second-year letters — Briana Mercer, Darci Dull and Sydney Riethman; first year varsity letter — Millie Murphy.

Special recognition was given to Brooke Grieshaber and Briana Mercer, who were selected as Most Valuable Cheerleaders. Sidney Riethman was selected as “Most Spirited Cheerleader”, Rachael Scheidt, selected as “Most Improved Cheerleader” and the Coach’s Award was given to Lindsay Greve.

Erin Patterson was presented a varsity letter as the winter sports mascot and was also recognized as a scholar athlete.
