Peony Festival activities for 2011 listed

The Peony Festival Committee is planning activities for this year’s Peony Festival and parade, to be held Friday, June 3, through Sunday, June 5.

The festival theme this year is “Friends and Neighbors.” Churches, businesses, families or neighborhoods that would like to place an entry in the parade can call Bob Exline at 419.238.6223 for an entry form. The grand marshal for this year’s Grand Parade is Steve Thomas, who the committee felt exemplified this year’s theme after the kindness he showed to a gentleman who had fallen last winter.

The festival craft show will be in Fountain Park again this year on Friday and Saturday. For more information about renting a space, call Trudy Webster at 419.238.6208 for an application.

A new attraction this year is a Pet Show in Fountain Park on Saturday morning at 9 for all ages. For those who register before the day of the show, the entry fee is $5; those who wait until that morning will pay $8. Call Zoe Longstreth at 419.495.4016 for a registration form (or click here).

The Fishing Derby will also be held at Camp Clay on Saturday morning, from 9-11. The derby is for kids age ages 3-6, 7-10 and 11-14. Bring a fishing pole, and the fishing derby organizers will provide the bait. Sponsor for the event is Thatcher-Kulwicki Insurance.

The Car Show will be held on Main Street this year on Friday night. Adam Brower can get those classic vehicles registered for the event by calling 419.203.0143.

The 2011 Fountain Park Summer Music Series will begin Friday, June 3, at 7 p.m. with the Van Dells, an entertaining group playing music from the Fifties and Sixties.

And don’t forget the fun going on at the fairgrounds over the weekend, with the Mud Drags, Burn Out Contest, Rock-n-Roll bands, and Tuff Trucks events.
