Van Wert independent/contributor content
The 50th Van Wert County Jubilee Flower Show is approaching.
The show will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5, in the Administration Building on the Van Wert County Fairgrounds. Hours to view the flower show will be: Saturday, 1-5 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Entries will be accepted on Saturday, June 4, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. It is not required that those entering be Van Wert County residents or a member of a garden club. All entries must be in place by 10:30 a.m. June 4, as judging will begin then.
Entry tags and flower show books are available in advance at Balyeat’s Coffee Shop, 133 E. Main Street in Van Wert.
The show is divided into two sections: horticulture and artistic design. A rosette will be given for the best entry in each section. A $25 cash award will also be given for the best of show in the horticulture division. Ribbons awarded in each class will be first, second, third, and honorable mention.
Awards will be given at the discretion of the judges, and their decisions will be final. Judges will consider the method of display and containers used.
The purpose of the show is educational: to improve the quality and standards of flowers grown by recognizing their merits through competition and the presentation of awards, and to promote the artistry of home flower arrangements.
