Heather Metzger

Heather Metzger, 95, of Van Wert, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born May 1, 1916, in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of the late Thomas and Harriet (Higgins) Owen. On July 23, 1942, she married her loving husband, John Metzger Sr., who preceded her in death on February 18, 1987.

Heather and her husband, John, were the owners of Metzger’s Grocery Store and the Cozy Rest Home in Van Wert. Heather also worked in a couple of other grocery stores during her working years. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert. She loved her family, friends, sewing, reading, crafting and homemaking.

She is survived by her children, Thomas (Jean) Metzger, John (Laura) Metzger Jr. and Linda (Paul) Edwards, and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Metzger.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Rick (Deb) Metzger, Judy (Johnny) Little, Chuck (Pam) Metzger, Mike Metzger, Guy (Teresa) Metzger, Ty (Tammy) Metzger, Angie (Dave) Ireton, Beckie (Tyler) Holdgreve, Tricia (Travis) Metzger Osting and Anne (Ross Shartzer) Metzger; as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Richard Metzger, also preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Delphos.

Calling hours are from 2-6 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where a parish Rosary service will be held at 6 that evening.
