Simon & Garfunkel (tribute) coming to VW
It was September 19, 1981, and the excitement was building in New York’s famed Central Park. More than 500,000 fans (that’s nearly five OSU football games in Columbus!) were gathering to hear the legendary folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel who were reuniting for a free concert that night. They had not sung together since their last album in 1970: Bridge over Troubled Water.
It turned out to be one of the biggest events ever held on the Great lawn of Central Park in the middle of Manhattan. A videotape of the concert was made of the live performance that night for HBO. It also became a blockbuster seller throughout the world. Simon & Garfunkel and their beloved music were back together again… for one night!
This Friday night in Fountain Park, you will get to experience the next best thing to being in Central Park in 1981 as the Simon & Garfunkel Tribute will be in concert. Relive some of those beloved songs like, “Sounds of Silence,” “Mrs. Robinson,” “Bridge over Troubled Water,” “Cecelia,” and so many more.
During the period of 1964-1970, Simon & Garfunkel were No. 1 on the charts continuously. Everywhere you went, you could hear their music being played. They continue to perform to large audiences today, mostly solo and with their own bands. However, occasionally they will reunite for a concert once every decade.
I suggest not waiting for the next decade and come to Fountain Park this Friday night, close your eyes and imagine yourself in Central Park 1981. This tribute is that good! And you know you’ll love the music.
At the Niswonger Performing Arts Center, Select Series, Grand Series and Community Concert Series are jumping out the door. Many of you saw in the papers the tremendous response last Friday to ticket sales as the Select Series went on sale. The advantage to purchasing the series is that you not only save with a discount, but you also are able to purchase tickets NOW! Single ticket purchases will open to the public about 90 days before each concert. Last year, single ticket purchasers were shut out of the Kenny G concert because it sold out with series sales alone. Don’t let this happen to you this year.
Kenny G is returning for another fabulous Christmas concert this year and is once again leading the pack in ticket sales, so don’t delay! Today was another busy day at the box office. If you haven’t had the chance to see who is coming this season, go to the website: www.npacvw.org for a complete listing. Also, this Friday night, we will have brochures and information for you regarding the upcoming shows at the Simon & Garfunkel Tribute in Central Park … I mean Fountain Park!
FINÉ.
