Lloyd George Elston

Lloyd George Elston, 86, of Grover Hill, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at the Country Inn in Latty.

He was born in Grover Hill and was a farmer and factory worker for International Harvester, retiring in 1979.

Mr. Elston served with integrity in many roles as a member of Zion United Methodist Church and as a Washington Township trustee. He was a faithful, hard-working husband and loving, generous father and papa. He loved time with family playing games and became a euchre champ in his retirement village. He was an avid sports fan – especially enjoying the Cincinnati Reds and Wayne Trace High School sports. He also enjoyed traveling in the United States.

Survivors include his wife, Orpha (Corkwell) Elston; five children, Chris (Rebecca) Elston of Van Wert, Candice Elliott of Paulding, Lauretta (William) Aseltine of Middletown, R.I., Lisa (Matthew) Nichols of Berwyn Heights, Md., and Jonathan (Lavonne) Elston of Lambertville, Mich.; four sisters, Lois (Kenneth) Kohn of Van Wert, Colleen Cook of Monroeville, Ind., Eileen (Noel) Thomas and Rosalie (Roger) McClure, both of Grover Hill; two brothers, Don (Dessie) Elston of Grover Hill and Gary (Cathy) Elston of Montgomery, Texas; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

An infant son and daughter, and a brother, Randy Elston, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, at Zion United Methodist Church in Grover Hill, followed by a graveside service in Middle Creek Cemetery in Grover Hill.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at Den Herder Funeral Home in Paulding, and an hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Preferred memorials: Paulding/Defiance Area Youth for Christ or The Navigators International.
