Rex E. Tomlinson

Rex E. Tomlinson, 83, of Van Wert, died at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born February 13, 1928, in Ridge Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late John C. and Mary M. (Tribolet) Tomlinson. On March 9, 1951, he married Betty Lou (Stabler) Tomlinson, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include two children, Brenda (Tom) Rhoades of Van Wert and Dan Tomlinson of Kentucky; two brothers, Roger Tomlinson and Dean Tomlinson, both of Van Wert; a sister, Phyllis Lininger of Van Wert; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 18, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Greg Wack and Rev. Mary Ann Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Ridge Township, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honors units of American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 5803, both in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Bethel United Methodist Church in rural Van Wert County, Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center or the Van Wert Cougar Booster Club.
