Knight ACME team wins regional title

CELINA — The Crestview Knights junior ACME baseball team plated two runs in the first inning and held on for a hard fought 4-2 victory over Northmont in the regional finals held at Jim Hoess Field in Celina Sunday afternoon.

Knight hurler Isaiah Simerman scattered four hits over six inning, handing the ball over to teammate Bryce Richardson in the seventh as he slammed the door on Northmont’s rally.

Crestview scored its first two runs when Simerman’s soft liner to right field was misplayed, scoring Nathan Owens and Richardson. Northmont cut the lead in half at 2-1 with a single run in the third.

Crestview answered with two more runs in the top of the fifth. Brock Rolsten started the inning with a single and moved to second on an error. Key RBI singles by Damian Helm and Simerman lifted the Knights to a 4-1 advantage. Northmont added a single run in the bottom of the fifth but couldn’t find any holes in the Knight defense for the rest of the game.

Helm and Simerman each collected three hits in the contest while Adam Schumm added two hits in the 10-hit attack.  Crestview is now 20-1 and will meet Holland Springfield (Northern Regional champions) on Saturday and Sunday, July 24-25, in a best-of-three series played at Patrick Henry High School.  Both start times are 1 p.m.
