Photo competition nets winners

The Wassenberg Camera Club met Thursday, July 14, at the Wassenberg Art Center to compete in prints and slides that featured Leading Lines.  President Jodi Hattery came away the big winner with a first in slides and second in prints.  Both of her winning pictures had been taken in the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, located at the corner of Jefferson Boulevard and Calhoun Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Jan Sorensen’s print of a bridge on the New River Gorge Trail in West Virginia was selected as the best print.  There was a three-way tie for second in slides, and on the second vote, Keith Mongold’s  photo of a weather vane, now located in his flower garden, came out on top once again

In other business, Treasurer Karl Gribler, who is recovering from abdominal surgery, sent his report for the month.  He stated that only one member has money yet to turn in  from the sale of the club’s discount food cards.  Secretary Rex Dolby reminded the group that the deadline to enter the Van Wert County Fair photo exhibit is at the end of the month.  Categories in color and B/W include: Van Wert County. Fair, On the Farm, Silly Portraits, Night Time, and In Motion.

Hattery announced that the Art Association of Randolph County, located in Union City Indiana, will be holding its 8th Annual Summertime Photography Show August 4-17.  Categories include: Animals, Architecture, Landscape, Night Images, Plants, Portraits of Humans or Pets,  Photo & Sports

Journalism, Special Effects, Still Life, and Miscellaneous.  Entries will be received July 29 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and July 30 from 10 a.m.-noon..  Photographers may enter up to four photos at $5 each per member or $10 each for non-members.  Anyone wishing more information, may Email: jan@artsdepot.org or go to their website: www.artsdepot.org.

The Wassenberg Camera Club’s next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at the Wassenberg Art Center at 643 S. Washington St., Van Wert.
