Phyllis Ann Young

Phyllis Ann Young, 83, of Van Wert, died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Hearth & Home in Van Wert.

She was born September 12, 1927, in Ohio City, the daughter of the late Dean D. and Esther Lois (Putman) Switzer. On September 3, 1949, she married Gaylord Carl Young, who preceded her in death on October 1, 2002.

Survivors include a son, Ronald C. (Carla) Young of rural Van Wert; one brother, Paul Dean (Ella) Switzer of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Young of Convoy; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A son, Ned L. Young (in 2007), and one sister, Marilyn M. Haines (in 2010), also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 6, at St. Paul’s Reformed Church in America, in Harrison Township, with Pastor Chad Strabbing officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Friday, August 5, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Preferred memorials: Gideons International or the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society.
