Cougar golfers 4th at Liberty-Benton

The Cougar golf team traveled to Sycamore Springs Wednesday to compete in the Liberty Benton Invitational. Pacing the Cougars was junior Jacob Brake, who placed third overall with an 81. Matt Cucciarre followed up his low round Monday with an 82, Brandon Hernandez fired a 83 and junior Tyler Turnwald rounded out the scoring with an 87.

Van Wert’s 333 score was good for a fourth place finish out of 11 teams. Host Liberty- Benton took the title shooting 325 while Wauseon was runner-up at 330.

“This year’s tournament was played from the tips, which is good preparation for the district tournament,” said Van Wert Coach Jeff Hood. The Cougar junior varsity team will be in action Thursday at Fox’s Den in the Celina JV tournament.
