Water-themed photos flood Wassenberg Camera Club meeting
By Rex Dolby

The Wassenberg Camera Club (WCC) met Thursday, August 11, at the Wassenberg Art Center at 643 S. Washington St. in Van Wert to compete in prints and slides with a Water theme. As anticipated, there were a huge number of each to evaluate.

In the print division, Tracy Sterling’s photo of the Upper Falls at Old Man’s Cave in southern Ohio was judged as number one. LV Hollis’s picture of Charleston Falls in the Charleston Falls Preserve near West Charleston just north of Dayton was second and Will Hawkins’s close-up image of water drops on a rose in his back yard was awarded third place.
Shirley Hollis captured first place in slides with a winter picture of the Greenbriar Bridge, just south of Ginghamsburg near Dayton. Rex Dolby’s photo of the foam flow in the Tahquamenon river below the Lower Tahquamenon Falls in Michigan’s upper peninsula took second place.
President Jodi Hattery announced that the catering for the October Show reception had been finalized and called for a vote as to whether it should be held on Saturday evening

or Sunday afternoon. The vast majority indicated that they preferred Saturday evening as it has been in the past. Hattery also pointed out the need to fill in the sign-up sheets for helping at the fair.
Jan Sorensen announced that Dick Rohr had suffered a mild heart attack and is now back in his residence after a stay in health care. A sheet to wish him well was circulated and Virginia Thatcher will see that it is mailed with a card from the club.
Members welcomed Sandra Dowdy of rural Van Wert to the meeting.
Hattery said the next meeting (Thursday, August 25, 7 p.m. at the Wassenberg Art Center) would deal with matting and framing pictures for competition and will be

open to the public.
As a final note, I’d like to thank Phil and Juanita Hotmire for the use of their scanner while my computer is in the shop so the winning prints could be included in this article.
