Velma M. Waltz

Velma M. Waltz, 78, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 18, 2011, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born May 15, 1933, in Van Wert County, to the late Dale and Goldie (Zinn) Duncan. On January 23, 1960, she married Bernard Waltz, and he survives in Van Wert.

Mrs. Waltz was employed at Capehart-Farnsworth in Fort Wayne, Ind., the U.S. Post Office in Convoy and retired from Aeroquip Corporation in Van Wert after 19 years of service.

She was a member of Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, and TWIG I. In Florida, she was involved in Red Hatters of Forest Park and served as the secretary for the Ohio Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, both in Ohio and Florida.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Patrick (Sarah Mensing) Waltz of Van Wert; one daughter, Lori (Jeff) Wermer of Convoy; two grandchildren, Andrew (Leah) Wermer and Kelsy Wermer; a brother, William (Karen) Duncan; and two sisters, Eleanor (Dean) McOmber and Mary Evans.

A daughter, Patti Kay Waltz; one granddaughter, Lindsay Ann Wermer; twin sisters, Laverne Reed and LaVonne Carrier; a brother-in-law, Ray Carrier; two nephews, David Reed and Eric Ross; and a niece, Beth Bissonette, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 22, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Revs. Ron Lumm and Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

Calling hours are from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, August 21, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: American Diabetes Association or Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church.
