2011 Community Days event ready to go

CONVOY — Convoy Community Days will be celebrated September 23-25 at Edgewood Park.  Many events are being planned for the weekend festival for all ages.

Food

Friday — Chicken or rib dinner by Gibson’s Barnyard BBQ; Saturday — Sandwiches all day; Sunday — Sandwiches and dessert bar. Kids’ meals will be available on Friday and Saturday.

Activities

Lawn Mower Drag Races Friday, September 23, will begin at 6 p.m. at the back of the park, with registration the week prior to race.  Entry fee is $15 and trophies will be awarded to first and second place finishers. Basket Bingo will be held on Saturday, September 24, at 9:30 a.m. at the Edgewood Park Community Building. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. Early Bird Bingo at 9 a.m. and regular Basket Bingo immediately following the Early Bird Bingo; 20 games for $20. The baskets will be filled with goodies sponsored by Convoy area businesses. A raffle will also be held during Bingo. For more information, contact event chairman Ann Helm at 419.749.2028.

Softball tournaments will be held Saturday, September 24 (men’s) and Sunday, September 25 (coed) on the Edgewood Park ballfields. Contact Timothy Bolenbaugh at 419.749.2525 to register.

Kids’ Activities

Saturday, September 24 — Self-defense demonstration at 9:30 a.m., Kiddy Tractor Pull in the parking lot at 10 a.m., kids’ games begin at 10 a.m. in the tent on the tennis court, Barrel Train Express from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Mark’s Ark Animal Show 5 p.m., Muhlenkamp Juggling Act in the tent.

Free kickball tournament for ages 12-18, September 24 behind the Edgewood Park Community Building.  To register, contact Stephanie Simerman at 419.749.2750. There will be a maximum of eight teams, each with a 10-12 person roster.

Convoy Community Days Parade ”Convoy Pre School Celebrating 25 Years”” will be held Saturday September 24, at 1 p.m., with line-up at 11:30 a.m. at Crestview Local Schools. Grand marshals will be Convoy Preschool, celebrating 25 years of serving the Convoy area. For registration forms, visit the village website. Pre-register and receive a 2011 Convoy Community Days magnet.

The Convoy Truck Pull will be held Saturday, September 24, starting at 6 p.m., at the rear of Edgewood Park. Contact CW Harting at 419.203.2117 or Emmett Minnich at 419.749.4135. Visit the website for rules and regulations and classes.

Craft and vendors all day, fee is $10 for the weekend. Vendors provide tables and cover. Contact Jason at 419.749.4181.

Fifties and Sixties Dance with “Crossroads” Saturday, September 24, starting at 7 p.m. in the community building. Crossroads will perform until 10 p.m.  Sandwiches, milkshakes, malts and soda will be served throughout the evening. Wear poodle skirts and rolled-up jeans with t-shirts and enjoy an evening of fun.

A 5K run/walk will be held Sunday, September 25, at 9 p.m. Registration will begin at 8 that evening.  Contact Cary Mathew at 419.749.2651. Preregister by September 10 and receive a free t-shirt.

A cornhole tournament will be held Sunday, September 25, at 1 p.m. at Edgewood Park.  Register on Saturday at the concession stand or Sunday at noon on the tennis courts.  Preregister before September 9 for a free t-shirt by contacting Linda Clay at 419.749.4034. Two-person teams, $20 per team, double-elimination, two divisions, “under 18” and “open.”

Preaching at the Park will be held at 11:11 a.m. Sunday in the Community Building with “Crossroads”

Get reverse raffle tickets today at The Tavern, Convoy Village Office, Secret Gardens, The Sophisti-Cut or by contacting Jason at 419.749.4181. The drawing will take place Sunday, September 25, at 1:30 p.m. at Edgewood Park. Tickets are $15. There are only 200 tickets sold, so get a ticket today.
