Playing out of the No. 3 spot as a result of a slow start to his season, Turnwald opened the back nine with a birdie four offset by two bogeys and six pars to lead the way for both teams.

“It was great to see Tyler break out tonight,” said Van Wert Coach Jeff Hood. “He really has the ability to go low and we need that consistently to meet our goals”.

Close behind Turnwald was fellow junior Jake Brake, who shot a 37. Rounding out the scoring for the Cougs was Brandon Hernandez, 40; Adam Jurczyk, 41; Vince Moreland, 42;, and Matt Cucciarre, 46.

The Cougar junior varsity team also traveled to St. Marys, and defeated the Roughriders 197-210. Leading the way was Justin Price and Elijah Wortman with a pair of 45s, while Korbin Schalois had a 53 and Alex Miller a 54.

The Cougars return to the road Thursday against Elida at the “Rac” in Lima at 4:30 pm
