Lancer runners do well at Raider tourney

GROVER HILL — The Lincolnview cross country teams competed at the Wayne Trace invitational last night. The varsity boys’ team placed third overall, running an outstanding team race. The Lancer runners were paced by freshman Bayley Tow, who placed 13th overall (17:40). Close behind was Jeff Jacomet (19th), Ben Bilimek (26th), Brandon Jacomet (33rd), and Austin Treesh (35th).

“The boys really responded tonight,” said Coach Matt Langdon. “We had a disappointing start to our season last Saturday and they came back and ran PRs on a much slower course.  I liked the way that they fought tonight.”

The varsity girls’ team also ran outstanding, placing fifth as a team, and had two girls in the top 10 of the race.  Kerri Grothaus placed eighth overall and Karissa Burns was ninth. Both girls ran under 22 minutes and set the tone for the races to follow. They were followed by Sabrina Barnhart (35th), Taylor Miller (44th), and Madelyn Jones (75th).

“We were missing one of our top five tonight and yet the girls responded very well and nearly took home the fourth place trophy,” Coach Langdon said. “They showed a lot of character tonight.”

The junior varsity boys placed second behind Division II Van Wert, running a very strong race and placing their top four in the top 14 of the race. The Lancer JVs were led by a fourth place finish by Alex Rodriguez. He was followed by Tyler Brant (10th), Nick Germann (12th), Levi Brake (14th), and Travis Lippi (24th).
