VWPD K-9 unit retiring

After nearly six years of service in the Van Wert Police Department’s K-9 Unit, Officer Steve R. Boroff and his dog, Lakkie, are stepping down from the K-9 program, effective August 30, due to the age and health conditions of Lakkie. “On behalf of the department and the City of Van Wert, I would like to thank Officer Boroff and Lakkie for their years of service and dedication to the K9 unit,” said Police Chief Joel Hammond. “Officer Boroff’s experience, expertise, and professional demeanor as a K-9 handler contributed to the overall success of the department’s program and will be missed.” Lakkie will enjoy retirement with Officer Boroff and his family.
