Community Club planning Zumba-thon
Van Wert independent/Community Club information
The Van Wert Community Club is hosting a Zumba-thon from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, at the S.F. Goedde Building, 205 W. Crawford St. in Van Wert. The cost is $10 per person. Registration the day of the event will begin at 8:45 a.m. and those wanting to participate are encouraged to pre-register by calling 419.203.9669 by Saturday, September 10.
Zumba is an easy to follow, Latin-inspired dance-fitness program that is taught in gyms and studios all around the world. Come out to meet fellow Zumba enthusiasts or, for those new to the experience, bring friends and find out what Zumba is all about. Those out of shape or who think they can’t dance shouldn’t worry. Modifications will be shown and participants of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to attend. Participants should wear comfortable, lightweight clothing and supportive athletic shoes. Zumba is easy and fun, so plan to join the group for an exhilarating morning that will get the day going.
The Zumbathon will be led by Josie Hemmelgarn, along with a few guest Zumba instructors. Hemmelgarn is a certified instructor who teaches at the YMCA and Lighthouse Fellowship Church in Celina and RockFit in Rockford. Her certifications include Zumba Basic 1 and 2, Zumbatomic for Kids, and Zumba Gold for Seniors.
The Van Wert Community Club is a newly formed service organization made up of volunteers who donate their time to support community-based activities. Members of the club, which is the successor to the Van Wert Jaycees, have many different interests and talents and enjoy the friendships and networking connections established through projects and special events. Proceeds from the event will be used to support upcoming club projects.
Officers of the club include Phil Scott, president; Rodney Saam, vice president; Ashley Medford, secretary; Susan Saam, treasurer; and Mark Klausing, Jim Pearson and Aaron Knittle, trustees.
The club will also operate the Hiestand Woods Haunted House, with the DARE organization, from October 1-31, and also maintains the “Welcome” signs at the north and south edges of Van Wert.
