Cougar golfers win ‘ugly’ against Bath
The Lima Bath Wildcats traveled to Willow Bend Country Club Tuesday and brought cold windy weather with them, but Van Wert still won the Western Buckeye League match, 174-189.
“I guess we were fortunate to play poorly and get by with a win,” said third-year Van Wert Coach Jeff Hood. “The pins were in some tough spots and we played in a cold gusty wind, but I think our guys expect better of themselves.”
The medalist and runner-up spots belonged to Jacob Brake and Brandon Hernandez, with a 40 and 43, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for Van Wert was Matt Cucciarre, 45; Tyler Turnwald, 46; Adam Jurczyk, 47; and Vince Moreland, 50.
Low man for Lima Bath was Matt Holt with a 45. Bath goes to 0-5 in the WBL while Van Wert stays undefeated at 5-0 (7-0 overall). The Cougars hope to get their rain gear out with a home match against Celina on Thursday.
In junior varsity action, Justin Price carded a low round of 42.
