Kenton downs Cougars in WBL volleyball
KENTON — The Van Wert volleyball team traveled to Kenton for its second Western Buckeye League match of the season.
The weather was pretty much how the Cougars played for the evening: “gloomy”. It had been a week since their last game, when they defeated Lima Shawnee in the WBL opener. The game scores were 19-25, 18-25 and 22-5, bringing the varsity record to 2-2.
The Van Wert junior varsity team won in two games, 25-5 and 25-15. The JV record is 4-0 for the season. The freshman team also won in two games, 25-21 and 25-22. The freshmen’s record is 1-1.
Leading varsity stats were Molly Gamble, five kills; Maggie Allmandinger, four ace serves; Millie Murphy, five assists; and Sidney Collins and Danielle Hitchcock, who led the blocking.
JV stats: Alexa Dunlap, five kills; Cheyenne Handy, Alexis Dowdy, Sydney Dull, three ace serves each; Sydney Dull, nine assists; and Riley Jones and Alexis Dowdy, each a solo block.
Freshman stats: Saige Royer, six kills; Alexa Dunlap, five ace serves; and Kelsey Spridgeon, five assists.
The Cougars will be back in action today as they travel to Ottoville for a varsity/JV match, which begins at 1 p.m.
