The Van Wert County Board of Commissioners opened bids for a project in Ohio City and also authorized Thomas Edison Superintendent Jim Stripe to order a new school bus on an emergency basis to replace two buses that had to be taken out of service.
Commissioner Gary Adams said three bids were received for the Ohio City project, which involves demolishing a maintenance building no longer being used. Bids were as follows:
- B&B Wrecking of Cleveland, $16,900
- Toms Construction of St. Henry, $17,847
- Arcon of Arcanum, $18,338
Adams said all three bids would be taken under advisement until they can be researched to make sure they are valid bids.
The commissioners also authorized Stripe to purchase a Cardinal bus that seats 48, and also be able to hold three locked down wheelchairs.
Purchase price of the bus was approximately $98,500, Adams noted.
Also Thursday, the commissioners met with Earl Reed of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio’s Energy Consortium. Reed will be helping the county in partnership with Palmer Energy on an initiative that will be on the ballot in November.
