Cougar golfers defeat O.G. at Willow Bend

The Van Wert  golf team experienced a youth movement in Tuesday’s home make-up match with OG.  The Cougars defeated the Titans 159- 173 and brought and end to the WBL regular season.  Brandon Hernandez, a freshmen beat the nearest competitors by 4 strokes firing a one over par 36. Fortunately for the Cougars,  junior Tyler Turnwald and sophomore Justin Price followed with a pair of 40’s. Rounding out the scoring for Van Wert was Jacob Brake at 43, Vince Moreland at 45, and Matt Cucciarre at 47. The Titans were led by their top two golfers Matt Hermiller and Jaylan Von Sosson with a pair of 42’s. The league tournament will be played this Thursday at Pike Run beginning at 9:00 am, the Cougars are one place behind Defiance needing to go low to deal with 6 seniors on the Bulldogs team. The Cougars feel as though they can compete but will need strong play and leadership from their two seniors Matt Cucciarre and Vince Moreland.
