Stanley Joe Workman, 72, of Van Wert, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was born January 6, 1939, in Spencerville, the son of the late Charles K. and Mary Ruth (Shindollar) Workman. On September 10, 1960, he married Karen (Burnfield) Workman, who survives in Van Wert. They had celebrated 51 loving years of marriage.

Stanley retired from International Harvester in Fort Wayne and Ohio City Manufacturing in Ohio City. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of Willow Bend Country Club in Van Wert. He loved to restore old Cub Cadet garden tractors and loved being with his grandchildren and attending all of their school and sporting events. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Vicki (Ed) Stevens of Van Wert and Melissa Mace of New Haven, Ind.; his mother-in-law, Ruth Burnfield of Spencerville; a brother-in-law, Roger Burnfield of Van Wert; one sister-in-law, Janice Warnecke of Spencerville; and five grandchildren, Adam, Nathan and Luke Stevens and Brooklyn and Brandilyn Mace.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, with Pastor Gus Christo-Baker officiating. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Preferred memorials: American Heart Association or Phi Beta Psi sorority of Van Wert’s Cancer Fund.
