It’s football homecoming week at Van Wert High School, and a number of activities are planned for the week. First up is the Homecoming Parade, which will be held Wednesday, September 28, starting at 6:30 p.m. The parade begins at the intersection of Sycamore and Jefferson streets and proceeds down Jefferson to Fountain Park.
The parade will include floats representing each of the city school buildings, as well as each of the four high school classes (freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors), the VWHS marching band, horses, fire trucks, Powder Puff teams, cheerleaders and the football team.
The parade will end at Fountain Park, where a pep rally will be held in celebration of Friday’s Homecoming game with the Celina Bulldogs.
The annual Powder Puff football game pitting the girls of the junior and senior classes against each other, will follow the rally, beginning at 7:30 in Eggerss Stadium. The game will also feature “cheerleaders” and a male Homecoming “queen” and his court.
On Friday, the Homecoming football game will be held, with the naming of the 2011 football homecoming queen preceding the game in Eggerss Stadium (see a photo of the senior queen candidates and the three underclass attendants in Wednesday’s independent).
A Scholarship Supper will also be held prior to the game in the S.F. Goedde gymnasium. The event is sponsored by the Van Wert Federation of Teachers (see story below).
