Lewis P. Hammons

Lewis P. Hammons, 93, of Van Wert, died at 5:05 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2011, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born November 6, 1917, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Harvey and Mary (Dunlap) Hammons. On April 10, 1937, he married Margaret R. (Waltz) Hammons, who preceded him in death on September 11, 2007.

Survivors include a son, Lewis DeWayne Hammons of  Van Wert; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Friday, September 30, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Calling hours are from 10 a.m.-noon at the funeral home.
