Brake advances, VW golf team misses out

DEFIANCE — The Van Wert golf team finished fourth out of 12 teams in sectional play at Country Acres, one stroke and one team position from qualifying as a team. Napoleon, Bryan, and Liberty-Benton will head to Sycamore Springs in team play next Thursday.

Individuals advancing include: Carter Bowman of St. Marys (76), Jacob Brake of Van Wert (77), Matt Holt of Bath (79), and Matt Hermiler of Ottawa-Glandorf (82).

“The team fought hard; we thought we needed a 325 to get out and we weren’t far off from that prediction,” said Van Wert Coach Jeff Hood. “In 18 holes of golf, all the guys know it would not have been hard for each guy to save a stroke; this one will hurt for awhile.

The Cougars wrap up their season 11-1 in dual meets, a second place finish in the Western Buckeye League, a runner-up finish at the Jordan Moeller tourney and today’s fourth place finish at sectional.
