The Van Wert County Heart Land Patriots have invited candidates for contested citywide offices to share their stories and qualifications for their respective positions at the organization’s regular October meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 11, at 6:30 p.m., in the Youth Room of Trinity Friends Church’s Family Life Center.

Candidates vying for mayor, law director, and the at-Large city council seats will be speaking to the group. Also being emphasized at the October meeting will be a massive “get-out-the-vote effort to rally county residents to the polls on November 8 for votes on critical issues facing city, county, and Ohio residents. At the top of the list are state Issues 2 and 3, which support amendments to the Ohio Constitution.  In addition to election information, The Heart Land Patriots are sponsoring an essay contest to encourage high school students to study and become more familiar with the U S Constitution. A plan has been formulated to put a free copy of the Constitution in the hands of students in the four Van Wert County high schools, and students will be encouraged to write and submit essays. Winning essays will be awarded a cash prize by the Heart Land Patriots.

The public is invited to the October 11 event to meet and greet the candidates and learn more about the vital work of The Heart Land Patriots. The Youth Room in the Family Life Center is easily accessed from the parking lot at the rear of the church building.
