VW tennis team advances at WBL tourney
All three Van Wert girls’ tennis singles players, and both doubles teams advanced in the Western Buckeye League tournament and will play again today at the University of Northwest Ohio’s tennis complex.
No. 1 singles player Brooke Keber defeated Elida’s Monica Tieu, but then lost to No. 1 seed Lauren Rovner of Shawnee, 6-1, 6-0. Keber will play St. Marys’ Mariah Krugh today in the double-elimination tourney.
No. 2 singles player Jenna Waterman defeated No. 4 seed Kim Kahle of Ottawa-Glandorf 6-2, 7-5, and will next play No. 1 seed Nora Shaheen of Shawnee today.
No. 3 singles player Katie Etter, the tournament’s No. 4 seed, defeated Annie Harrod of Wapakoneta 6-2, 6-0, and will play No. 1 seed Emily Zender of Celina today.
Van Wert’s No. 1 doubles team of Lindsay Smith and Gretchen Klinker, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, downed Katie Martin and Keirsten Wellons of Wapakoneta and will play No. 3 seeds Anita Kottopalli and Lindsey McKinley of Shawnee today.
The No. 2 doubles of Paige Dunlap and Katie Kline downed Jordan Ward and Miriam Audiwumi of Shawnee and will play Halley Hurst and C’era Savage of Elida today.
