EDGERTON — The Lancer Cross Country teams traveled to Edgerton on Saturday for the Edgerton Cross Country Invitational.
The boys’ team took home the runner-up trophy, edging out Pettisville by a single point, 103-104. Liberty Center won the meet with 55 points.
Two of the Lancer boys took home individual honors. Bayley Tow placed ninth overall and Jeff Jacomet placed 19th to bring home individual medals. Rounding out the top seven for the Lancers were Ben Bilimek (21st), Austin Treesh (23rd), Alex Rodriguez (31st), Lucas Myers (33rd), and Doug Hicks (35th).
“The boys ran really well today in very poor conditions,” said Lincolnview Coach Matt Langdon. “Despite the cold, wind, and muddy course, we were able to compete and get past Pettisville, who had beaten us by 30 points just the previous weekend.
“Our pack is really coming together and the boys are totally committed to what we are trying to do,” Coach Langdon added. “The end of the season should be exciting.”
The girls’ team also ran well on the sloppy course and placed fifth as a team. The girls also had two individuals who took home medals. Kerri Grothaus placed 11th and was followed by teammate Karissa Burns, who placed 17th overall. Rounding out the top five were Sabrina Barnhart (42nd), Taylor Miller (49th), and Madelyn Jones (90th).
“The girls set the tone for the day,” Coach Langdon noted. “They really went out and fought hard.
“We are starting to see some of that consistency that we lacked early in the season,” he added. “I was impressed by how the girls responded today.”
The next meet for the Lancers will be at the Coldwater Invitational on Thursday.
