VW girls’ tennis team 3rd in WBL tourney

The Van Wert girls’ tennis team finished in third place in the Western Buckeye League tournament, held at the University of Northwest Ohio’s tennis center. Celina won the league, while Shawnee finished in second place.

The Cougars, who ended the regular season in fourth place, tied for third overall with St. Marys, which ended the regular season in third place, but was beaten out by Van Wert for third in the tournament.

Cougar players were led by the second-place finish of both doubles teams. The No. 1 doubles team of Lindsay Smith and Gretchen Klinker lost to Celina’s team of Audra Manci and Katie Kerr, while the Van Wert No. 2 doubles team of Paige Dunlap and Katie Kline lost to Celina’s Allison Laux and Miranda Werling.

No. 1 singles player Brooke Keber finished in eighth place, while No. 2 singles player Jenna Waterman was fourth and No. 3 singles player Katie Etter took third place.
